Barber & hair salon

A salon is judged by its chair and its mirror. Slide the handle: it's the same workstation, before and after.

The hexagonal LEDs extend over a meter around each chair. The light thus comes from multiple directions, eliminating shadows under the chin and behind the neck to provide optimal visibility for the hairdresser.

An isolated spotlight, placed just above the head, sharpens the client’s features and casts their neck into shadow. In contrast, the hexagonal LEDs distribute light evenly and offer the hairdresser optimal visibility.

Frequently Asked Questions

Living room lighting: your questions

What barbers and hairdressers ask us for before ordering.

How many hexagons for my living room?

Allow for 0.70 hexagons per m² in a living room — more than a garage, because you work on details there and light needs to come from everywhere. The grid should extend about one meter around each workstation.

Why do my clients look tired under my current lighting?

Because an isolated spot overhead darkens undereye circles and hardens features. The problem isn't the amount of light, it's the cast shadows. Light coming from multiple directions at once eliminates them.

What color temperature to avoid distorting hair color?

4,000 to 5,000 K at workstations. Below this, the light tends towards yellow and masks reflections; above, it tends towards blue and cools skin tones. Warm light remains for reception areas.

Is the CIR really important?

This is the number one criterion in lighting. A CRI higher than 90 is necessary to reproduce reds and coppers — precisely the most delicate shades. A "CRI" announced without a number means nothing.

Why do barbers cover the whole ceiling?

Because the light strip serves two purposes at once: it illuminates without shadows, and it becomes the visual signature of the salon — the one recognized in customers' Instagram photos.

Does it dazzle the customer in the mirror?

No, if the grid is distributed: no panel is alone in the line of sight. The point to check is the shampoo bowl, where the client looks at the ceiling in a reclined position: shift the grid or lower the intensity in that area.

Do I need an electrician?

In a professional setting, yes, for the connection. A full lighting track represents a power load that can exceed what the existing lighting circuit can support: have the line checked before purchasing, not after.

Can I mix two sets of panels?

No. Two batches never have exactly the same shade, and on a fully covered ceiling, the difference is noticeable to the naked eye. Only one batch for the entire living room.

The Hexel Marker

Lighting a hair salon or barbershop

In a salon, lighting is part of the service. It dictates what the client sees in the mirror at the end, and what they photograph when they leave.

The real issue isn't brightness, it's cast shadows and color fidelity.

The problem is the shadows

A single overhead light source casts shadows on the neck and hollows the face. A distributed lighting illuminates from multiple directions: shadows cancel each other out.

Overlap the post by one meter

The frame doesn't stop at the chair. A meter of overhang on each side is what allows the hairdresser to move around the client without casting their own shadow.

The storefront test

Go outside with a colored lock of hair and compare its shade in natural light. In ten seconds, you'll know if your light is deceiving you. It's the most reliable test, and it's free.

The shampoo bowl

This is the only place in the salon where the client looks at the ceiling for several minutes. Here, the weft is shifted or lowered: it's a moment of relaxation, not inspection.
