Showroom

In a showroom, you don't light up the room: you light up what you're displaying. Drag the handle to see what a difference it makes to a car body.

Before After

Before: traditional lighting that illuminates the room without really highlighting the vehicle. After: a LED track concentrated above the vehicle immediately catches the eye and enhances every line of the bodywork.

Frequently Asked Questions

Showroom Lighting: Your Questions Answered

What concessions, concept stores, and businesses are asking of us.

What's the right density for a showroom?

0.50 hexagon per m² at the base, 0.70 above display areas and in the shop window. A showroom entirely lit at the same level flattens everything: nothing stands out anymore.

Why less light than in a workshop?

Because what highlights is not the amount of light, it's the relationship between the product and its background. An object lit two to three times brighter than its surroundings attracts the eye, even at a moderate level. Before adding panels above a product, ask yourself if it wouldn't be better to remove them elsewhere.

How can I avoid reflections on a car body or a shop window?

Stand where customers look at the product — usually the entrance — and note what you see in the bodywork. Shift the frame accordingly. This check should be done before drilling, not after.

White or color?

Neutral white for products: this is what restores their true hue. Color is used as a complement, on a background or outline, to create an atmosphere—never to illuminate the product itself.

What to check before buying a commercial property?

CE marking on the product, the declaration of conformity, the complete technical data sheet (luminaire flux, power, color temperature, CRI), and the warranty period with what it covers exactly.

Can an LED matrix be used as emergency lighting?

No, never. Emergency lighting is separate equipment, independent of normal lighting, with its own verification requirements. The regulations depend on the type of establishment.

What happens after three years?

LEDs don't burn out, they gradually lose intensity; it's the power supply that fails first. The real risk is not being able to find the same model again: buy one more panel than you need and keep it.

Can a single panel be replaced?

Yes, on a modular frame each panel can be removed individually. Check when purchasing that the panels can be removed without breaking the adjacent connector.

The Hexeli reference

Lighting a showroom or retail space

The showroom rule is the opposite of the workshop rule: you don't light up the room, you light up what you're showcasing. The rest should remain in the background, otherwise the gaze becomes scattered.

A hexagonal ceiling serves two purposes here: it provides light and it becomes a visible signature from the street.

A report, not a grade

An object that is two to three times brighter than its background immediately stands out. It's the contrast that matters, not the absolute power.

The storefront is judged from the outside

By day, it battles natural light; by night, it becomes the sole focus. It is the densest area of the store.

The Trap of Reflections

Bodywork, display cases, glossy floors, screens: a showroom is full of surfaces that reflect light. You should check from the customer's perspective, never from the middle of the room.

The weft as decor

Highlighting an axis to lead from the threshold to the flagship product, or drawing an island of hexagons above a product like a carpet would mark the floor: the grid guides as much as it illuminates.
