High ceilings, steel framework, open volume: a hangar isn't lit like a garage. Drag the handle to see the difference.

Before: a few high-mounted spotlights give uneven lighting and plenty of dark areas. After: mounted under the framework, the LED grid spreads powerful, even light across the whole workshop.

Before: despite many spotlights, the lighting stays concentrated and leaves dark areas between vehicles. After: the hexagonal grid covers the whole ceiling and spreads powerful, even light throughout the hangar.
The layout for your hangar
Floor area, height under the framework, type of structure: we'll tell you how many hexagons you need and how to mount them.
Frequently asked questions
High ceilings change three things: density, mounting and maintenance.
Start from 0.55 hexagons per m², then add 50% as soon as the height exceeds 3 m. For 200 m² under a 5 m ceiling, that's about 165 hexagons — height drives the count, not floor area alone.
Because light thins out with distance. At 5 m, a grid sized for 2.50 m leaves the floor feeling dim, even though the ceiling itself looks well lit.
Always onto the load-bearing structure, never into the sheet metal or a suspended panel. The fixings depend on the substrate: solid concrete, hollow concrete, metal decking and timber framing don't take the same anchors.
It's an option when the work zone is clearly defined: bringing the source 1.50 m closer makes a real difference to comfort at floor level. But always keep the clearance needed for vehicles and machinery to pass.
Check it before you buy. A large grid can draw more power than the existing lighting circuit supports. In commercial premises, work on the electrical panel is a job for an electrician.
Plan for it from the design stage. A simple yearly clean calls for a lift platform or scaffolding: better to plan accessible bays than to discover the problem after installation.
Yes. Premises open to the public must have independent emergency lighting that takes over in the event of a power cut: an LED grid never counts as such. The applicable regulations depend on the type of establishment — have them confirmed by a professional.
An uninsulated hangar sees big temperature swings and a lot of dust. Respect the stated mounting distances, and use a suitable ingress protection rating over wash areas or areas exposed to the weather.

The Hexeli benchmark
In a hangar, it's not the floor area that sets the number of panels, it's the height. A grid sized as for a garage leaves the floor feeling dim, even though the ceiling looks well lit.
Three things to settle before buying: density corrected for height, mounting onto the actual structure, and access for maintenance.
Above 3 m, allow 50% more panels for the same area. That's not a luxury: it's what separates a well-lit space from one where you squint.
Metal decking, steel framework, suspended panels: always go back to the load-bearing structure. The standard fixings supplied don't suit every substrate.
When a zone is clearly defined — repair bay, sorting area — lowering the grid by 1 to 1.50 m noticeably improves comfort, as long as you keep the clearance for vehicles.
The yearly clean recovers a real share of brightness. At 5 m, it takes equipment: better to plan for it than to give it up.
| Area | Under 3 m | Above 3 m |
|---|---|---|
| 100 m² | 55 | 83 |
| 150 m² | 83 | 124 |
| 200 m² | 110 | 165 |
| 300 m² | 165 | 248 |
| 500 m² | 275 | 413 |
Basis 0.55 hexagons per m², increased by 50% above 3 m. Sizing values to be confirmed with your electrician for commercial premises.
